This entree is the second half of Miss A’s two part homework assignment. The first half required that she prepare a dessert – – she made Spanish Almond Cookies.
This portion of the assignment required that she prepare an entree for her family. So last Friday she made Chicken and Shrimp Paella for us. The recipe was found here. Like the first assignment, Miss A cooked and I took pictures. She’s 15 years old and helps me in the kitchen quite often so I’m very comfortable with her cooking skills.
These are some of the ingredients which include spices, red bell pepper, rice, tomatoes, garlic, asparagus and green peas. I love how she ALWAYS complies with the rule to FIRST gather your ingredients.
More ingredients including chicken thighs, shrimp, chicken broth and italian sausage.
Miss A started by cooking the chicken thighs for a few minutes on each side. Afterwards she removed the thighs and placed them in a covered glass dish to keep them warm.
The italian sausage was cooked with the onions and bell pepper.
Next, the rice was added along with tomatoes, paprika, saffron and garlic.
The chicken thighs were returned to the pan and then the chicken broth and salt were added. The pan was covered and placed in the oven to bake for 10 minutes.
Finally, Miss A stirred in the shrimp, asparagus and peas, covered the pan and baked for another five minutes.
This is a pan of goodness.
After dinner Miss A asked us to write a brief review describing what we thought of the dish…she turned our responses in as part of the assignment. Of course I my responses were glowing because Miss A did a great job!
