Have you ever tried mulled wine? If not, you’re missing something special. With the outside temps cooling, it doesn’t hurt to have something this warm and cozy to add to your Fall drink collection.
I recently received a complimentary bottle of Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi Harvest Spiced Red Blend and was excited to try it at home with some mulling spices I picked up from an indie craft market. The wine is “a unique blend with strong notes of red berries, cinnamon, vanilla, and clove.” Before trying it heated, I poured a taste at room temperature and was surprised at how easy it was to drink. I could instantly see myself sitting on our deck with a glass and a little music on a lazy, crisp afternoon.
The spice blend I used was a fragrant blend of cinnamon, orange, cardamom pods, nutmeg, clove, allspice, black peppercorn, ginger and red pepper flakes. As you can imagine, a few of the ingredients intensified the warmth a bit but that’s a matter of taste. I loved it. You could totally leave it out if you wanted.
To counter the spice and sweeten the mulled wine just a tad, I added 1/4 cup honey.
I allowed the wine to simmer for about 12 minutes before pouring it into a couple glasses for Steeler Fan and myself. If I had an orange, I would have garnished the glasses with a slice.
This taste of Fall is going to be on my list of go-to’s for the rest of the season and will likely make an appearance on the hot bar I set up for my family during the holiday season.
Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi Harvest Spiced Red Blend is a limited-edition wine and is now available at major retailers. If you’re looking for an alternative Fall or Holiday beverage, mulled wine is a good place to start.
