“The” Birthday Party After Party

Just so you know: The celebratory experience described below included complimentary eats provided by Edgar’s Proof and Provision. Read on…

One gorgeous Sunday evening, a group of friends gathered in an intimate drinkery located on the lower level of The Georgian Terrace Hotel to celebrate the birthday of a very special blogger. I happened to be among the attendees of the event dubbed the Kentucky Derby After Party  Birthday Party. Yes, you read that right; this was an after party party for someone who truly deserves to be celebrated… Chef M.

// Next Level Deviled Eggs | Smoked Jerky with Chipotle & Soy Marinated Flank Steak

The Georgian Terrace is beyond elegant and is a favorite of Chef M of The Front Porch Gourmet and her dear husband. It’s no wonder they chose to host this special occasion at Edgar’s Proof and Provision, one of the destination’s notable dining options. As I entered the dimly lit den, it felt like I was stepping out of a blanket of daily grind into a moment of timelessness. P&P is the kind of place where one can just “be” whether that means alone, with a friend or even a group of them.

// Black Eyed Pea Hummus with Cucumbers, Olives and Grilled Naan Bread

Our group gathered around a couple tables slid together to accommodate our number. It was cozy. Perfect even. Arrangements had been previously made for us to casually nosh on items from a menu of Snacks and Sandwiches which included something I should have snapped a photo of, Hardwood-Smoked Almonds with Rosemary Salt. Have you ever tried warm almonds with all the right stuff? They were pretty darn irresistible.

// Roasted Cauliflower with Roasted Jalapeno Queso Sauce

Surprisingly, there was a good selection of vegetarian options on the menu like Black Eyed Pea Hummus and Roasted Cauliflower. They were unexpected choices but they did get the job done. There were a couple bar favorites as well.

// Smoked Chicken Wings with Blue Cheese Bacon Dressing
// Hot Pretzel with Cheese Sauce

That night, we snacked the evening away while carrying on casual conversations. As we neared the end of our savory snacking experience, Executive Chef Mark Breault stopped by to chat for a few about the restaurant AND to share the details of a new addition to the Proof & Provision menu.

Before digging into the specifics about his tray of Red Velvet inspired confections he expressed his desire to ensure that visitors to both Edgar’s and Livingston’s are satisfied with their respective offerings. Essentially it was a nod to fresh food prepared by folks who care. That sentiment is even conveyed on their menu.

“with very few exceptions, everything here at P&P has been made, lovingly, by us. Sure, we’ve outsourced some stuff (i.e. bread, cheese and dry-cured charcuterie) but wherever we can, we proudly serve housemade, handcrafted products.”

As far as that new little number on the menu goes, Chef Mark introduced us to The Truth Chicken and Waffle Slider.

// The Truth Chicken and Waffle Sliders with Brown Sugar Bourbon Smoked Bacon, Jalapeno-Peach Jam, Arugula and Caramel

It’s assembled with some unlikely flavors but, they kinda work. Bacon and Caramel are involved and they already get along so I can totally see various incarnations of the two with Red Velvet anything. The chicken is fine but I’d have to try another sample in order to decide how I truly feel about the jam. I love that something like this could happen though. It keeps dining out interesting.

The finale to Chef M’s celebration was not One, not Two, but Three cakes. The first was a generous serving provided by Edgar’s Proof and Provision. The second and third were delights from one of my favorite places, Alpine Bakery. Talk about the sweetest ending to a lovely night.

If you ever get the opportunity to meet Chef M, you’ll find that she’s kind, warm, caring, fair, generous and a whole bunch of other positive adjectives. She works hard, loves her husband, her family and her friends. I’m thankful that I was able to share a portion of that day with her and wish her all the best life has to offer.

Happy Birthday Month to You Chef M!!
