I honestly wasn’t quite sure how Saturday was going to work out. I invited my sister and her 5 year old daughter to Taste of Atlanta for Carnival’s “Green Eggs and Ham” Breakfast which included the reading of Dr. Seuss’ book by Brian Jordan. I can handle inclement weather but I was worried about my niece. How would she handle being outside in such uncomfortable conditions? Truthfully, she seemed to be a little put off by it at first, but after we were all seated and Mr. Jordan took the stage, she seemed to find a way to adapt and settled in quite well.

2 Brian Jordan

Brian Jordan, current Atlanta Braves announcer and former player of the Atlanta Braves and Atlanta Falcons, did a fantastic job of capturing the attention of children from the Atlanta-based Young Chefs Academy with his interpretive reading. His facial expressions alone were pretty entertaining.

Just so you know, he’s also founder of The Brian Jordan Foundation. The organization is “committed to creating and supporting programs for children and their families that will directly improve their quality of life.” Its areas of focus are Literacy, Health & Fitness and Scholarships. Now we see why Mr. Jordan is a fitting personality for this event.

After the book reading, there was a cooking demonstration led by Carnival Chef Roshan D’Souza. That’s when we learned the secret to making green eggs and ham. Hint: there’s spinach involved. Another interesting secret shared was the spread he uses on English Muffins which serves as a holder for the ham and eggs. It’s a mixture of butter and mayonnaise. Yes, it sounds wrongfully indulgent (love that expression) but, after tasting the toast, my sister and I agreed that it’s an amazing combination. We’re totally doing this at home. In moderation of course.

The book reading and breakfast concluded with games and activities for the kids. In the rain? What rain? It’s like they couldn’t even feel the drops.

This “on land” experience was unique in that it typically happens in the water via Carnival’s Fleetwide Seuss at Sea Program. I imagine it must be a magical experience for children on a cruise ship with characters and all the trimmings. Someday, we may have to give it a try and see first-hand.

We use the butter+mayo combo when we make grilled cheese sandwiches. I never thought to use it on other bread-stuffs but I’m sure it’s equally amazing.

Jenn, I adore grilled cheese sandwiches but have only used butter on them. I may have to shake things up a bit and try a little mayo.
BTW: So glad you stopped by! It’s been a while. Love the design of your blog too. 🙂
