Signature Tastes of Atlanta and Pear Crumble Tart

Yesterday felt like one of those lazy Sundays when all you want to do is sit back and read, watch movies or nap. Instead of doing any of that I decided to take a trip to the farmers market to buy some pears so I could try one of the recipes in Steven Siler’s latest cookbooks, Signature Tastes of Atlanta: Favorite Recipes from our Local Restaurants.

24 Signature Tastes of Atlanta

I received a complimentary copy of the cookbook from the  former firefighter (now chef) through the Atlanta Food Bloggers’ Society. It’s part of a series of cookbooks penned by the author featuring restaurant recipes from across the country.

22 pear crumble tart

This particular cookbook includes recipes from favorites like 4th & Swift, Antica Posta, Five Seasons Brewing Co., Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q, Highland Bakery, Holman and Fitch Public House and Miller Union. There are more than 60 restaurants & recipes inside. The one I chose to try was the Pear Crumble Tart from Park 75 at Four Seasons Hotel.

The recipe included three parts. The first was the Sugar Dough.

Although there aren’t any pictures inside the cookbook, the instructions for this particular recipe seemed pretty straightforward so no visual aid was needed. The same is true for most of the others.

A few of the recipes are pretty involved with the number of ingredients and required steps but with a little patience I imagine they’ll yield desirable results.

This dessert required the use of  a tart pan which I couldn’t put my hands on so I used a springform pan instead. It still worked out.

The second part of the recipe was the Sour Cream Pear Filling.

11 filling ingredients

This is the first fruit tart I’ve made that uses sour cream. When combined with the other ingredients, it seemed unusual new but still tempting.

The third and final part of the recipe was the Streusel topping.

7 streusel ingredients

The ingredients will yield more than what’s really needed so the rest can be set aside for another use. I didn’t set it aside. I put it ALL on there.

The tart baked up beautifully.

It was a decent dessert to finish off our Sunday dinner. It wasn’t very sweet and the sour cream added a hint of tartness. Steeler Fan liked it too and we both agree that when we make it again, we’ll drizzle it with a little Salted Caramel Sauce to help enhance the flavor.

In addition to recipes like this, The Signature Tastes of Atlanta cookbook contains several fun tidbits of trivia about Atlanta.  For example: an Atlanta restaurant “serves the highest amount of Coca-Cola in the world.” Do you know which one?

For the answer to this question and to get the recipe featured above and more, you can order a copy of Steven Siler’s cookbook from Amazon. Proceeds benefit Meals on Wheels.

This looks amazing Teresa! I want to try it!

I have the same cookbook and can’t wait to try some of the recipes from the area. I don’t know how you chose which one really. So many of them look good, but I think I may go with something savory first. I’ll let you know how it turns out.

Hi Linda! It wasn’t easy picking one recipe from all of the great choices. I have the Mushroom Gratin and Bonzo Cake on my bucket list along with a few others.

Let me know what you decide to make. I’m sure it’s going to be awesome!
