I don’t like flying but I’m fascinated by airplanes. Watching airliners taking off from and landing at Hartsfield is a real treat.  When I accepted an invite to attend the Hops in the Hangar fundraiser at the Delta Flight Museum, I was admittedly screaming on the inside because the tasting was set beneath the wings of a Boeing 767. So cool.

Craft brews were poured from two dozen brewing & beer companies into souvenir glasses provided to all attendees while Low Country Catering filled the bellies of First Class ticket holders with their catered barbecue menu.  Economy Class ticket holders played an unofficial game of chase the flight food attendant for tasty appetizers ranging from mini pulled pork sliders and pimento cheese pinwheels to spinach artichoke dip on toasted crostini.

An event map was provided to everyone upon entry into the museum to assist in locating and finding our favorite breweries. I put it to good use in tracking down Second Self Beer Co. They’re friendly and their beer is awesome. Just my humble opinion.

There were two hangars used to house the activities of the night. In addition to several aviation exhibits, Hangar 1 featured the band Line Creek Bluegrass.

Hangar 2 featured the band Taste. The real party was obviously under this roof.

The space included more of the museum’s exhibits including interactive displays, collectibles and other impressive historical data. But again, the cool factor for this lady (pointing finger at self) was the 767. I only wish I could have stepped inside. But I was an Economy Class attendee so, not an option. [Insert sad face].

For beer lovers, this night was quite a good one. Steeler Fan attended with me and made his rounds. He found quite a few Stouts he enjoyed but I can’t say he found a new favorite. The energy was high and everyone seemed to have a great time.

This Hops in the Hangar celebration was an inaugural event for the Delta Flight Museum with tickets selling out quickly. That is what I like to call impressive. If you plan to attend next year, just keep that in mind and buy your tickets early. Should you choose not to fly buy First Class, be sure to enjoy a nice dinner before the event.

Visit the Delta Flight Museum website for more information about their mission and to learn how you can lend your support.
