Flux Night

Last Saturday night, an area in Atlanta known as Castleberry Hill played host to an “annual night of art and experimentation.” This event is special because it gives you the opportunity to be in a space where freedom of expression, no matter how curious, is expected and welcomed with open arms.

For one amazing evening, this art district was filled with energizing music, food, drinks and a notable mix of curated and open call projects.

Flux Night 2013

I attended Flux Night with Miss A and one of the first interesting scenes we happened upon was a crowd of people looking through several holes cut out of a wall mural. What was in there?

Flux Night 2013

This was. It was a party within an art party. Fun right?!

Among the other projects were several digital art installations and plenty of unusual characters walking the neighborhood.

There were street artists and performers,

and artisans showing off their gilding skills. Yes, I can get behind gold leaf tipped boots.

One of the more popular stops was this Late Night Convenience Project. These are lanterns made from acetate copies of items sold in late-night grocery stores. There were 2000 of these illuminated novelties available for FREE to those of us lucky enough to make it to the store before they were all gone. Miss A and I are now proud owners of Junior Mint and Pringles lanterns. Yay!

I think the most powerful artistic performance was A Mundane Affair by Ion Yamazaki. The goal was to raise awareness about dementia. It did. In the last photo, the artist is writing on a black board with a brush using water. Miss A was quick to recognize how the words disappear as the water dries which is representative of memory loss. So very powerful.

This recollection of our evening at Flux Night is being shared today because it is the reason for my next wish for Mr. B and Miss A. I simply want them to enjoy and appreciate the freedom of Artistic Expression.

More information about Flux Night can be found on Their Website. The YouTube video below is a collage of the night. Enjoy! http://fluxprojects.org/fluxnight/

Found you from SITS. That dementia piece is amazing and makes me want to cry. My mother had terrible dementia when she died at the young age of 61.

I’m sorry you lost your mom so early. Art can do many things which includes teaching and healing. I’m glad you found this place and look forward to getting you know you more. Wishing you Peace and Love.
