Creme Brulee on Game Day

Steeler Fan is a fan indeed.  Last Sunday, like on most game days, there were plenty of man snacks around like grilled wings and brats, nachos and cheese dip with meat and a 2-liter Pepsi.  Steeler Fan has been known to proudly host a one man tailgating party.  And those who know and love him appreciate his dedication to “his team” through the good times and the bad.  Even if he gets overly passionate while sitting in tiny seats during the off-season at a baseball game when two unsuspecting patrons start talking negatively about the Steelers.  Guys don’t do that again….puleeease!  But I digress.

During the most recent game, Steeler Fan wasn’t bothered the least bit about being the only man in the house watching the game.  He wasn’t phased at all by the fact that he was in the company of six females who cared about the game, but not really.  The only other males in the house were his 2 and 6 year old nephews who started the day in the backyard playing ball, graduated to a box full of matchbox cars in the family room and finished out the day watching tv in another room.

When Steeler Fan watches football, he watches the football.  So when my nieces asked me to show them how to make creme brulee during the game, I was all to happy to oblige.  Steeler Fan was happy and his team was winning (of course). Perfect.

The recipe we used was found here on Food Network.

The girls actually had fun learning the steps and I appreciated being able to share something I love.  They each fell into their own roles, separating eggs, bringing cream to a boil, beating the mixture, etc.   Everything was great, but, there was one little problem…

After baking, you should wait for the creme brulee to cool before refrigerating and then wait at least two more hours for it to chill and set.  There are times when clock watching is just a mean thing to ask someone to do.

But when the time comes to dig in,

It’s so completely worth it!
