Papi's Cuban & Caribbean Grill

A recent hunt for dinner led Steeler Fan, Miss A and I to a new favorite dining spot.  Papi’s Cuban & Caribbean Grill offered us the perfect setting for winding down on a Saturday night.  We chose to dine al fresco and after taking our seats, we learned that a live band would be performing.  What perfect timing!

Here’s a quick look at our menu choices:

milkshakes

Something we’ve never tried before but will return for are the milkshakes.  They were amazing which we hoped for but it was a huge surprise because they didn’t contain ice cream.  I ordered a Mango Milkshake which included a blend of mango fruit pulp, milk, sugar and ice.  Miss A’s Caribbean Milkshake was a mixture of guanabana, passion fruit, mango, papaya and mamey fruit pulps, milk, sugar and ice.  Both were so simple, yet simply delicious!

Chicken Empanada

Steeler Fan order Chicken Empanadas for Miss A and I.  I’ve had empanadas before but they were not at all like this.  The chicken was seasoned nicely and the pastry was delightfully crispy.

Polla Cuban Sandwich

Miss A ordered a Pollo Cuban sandwich which she loved.

Jerk Chicken Cuban Wrap

I went a little spicy with the Jerk Chicken Cuban Wrap.  The portion was huge and had just the right kick.  I could only eat half but I’m not afraid of leftovers so I took the rest home for later.

Plantains

These Maduros (plantains) were a nice companion for our sandwiches….better than chips.

Steak, Black Beans and Rice

Steeler Fan tried the steak (it’s usually prepared with onions but dude doesn’t like ’em).   The dish also included rice and a bowl of black beans.  He was very pleased with his choice….

Mojito

and this one too.

Bread Pudding
For dessert we tried the Cuban Bread Pudding.  It was served cold which we didn’t expect.  It also contained raisins and was served with a sauce that we may have to develop a taste for.  It was not bad but we may try something different next time around.

Overall the experience was pretty awesome….our server was very attentive and the music was energizing.  I’m looking forward to returning again soon.
