It’s time again for another Writer’s Workshop hosted by Mama Kat at Mama’s Losin It!  The prompt I chose is 10 Reasons Why You’re Glad It’s Fall.  This assignment is easy for me because Autumn is my absolute favorite season.  Here are the ten reasons why I’m glad it’s here:

1. Fall Colors
I’m the kind of person who admires the varying shades of white in the clouds, the transition of green in the trees from Spring to Summer, the sound the wind makes as it blows, the brilliance of the color blue in the sky…. Autumn brings with it a beautiful array of golden yellows, oranges, browns and reds and countless opportunities to appreciate the beautiful gifts nature offers.

2. Comfort Food
When I think of lunch and dinner now, I have soups, stews and heartier dishes on the brain. I’m dusting off my soup bowls and “go to” recipes and getting ready for a season of warm, filling goodness.

3. Midday Walks in the Park
The past few months have been so hot that walks in the park during the middle of the day was out of the question. Now, I can go any time I’m moved to do so.

4. Fall Merchandising at the Grocers
When I walked into the grocery store a couple days ago, I was greeted by pumpkins, squash, gourds, apples, cider and cookies with orange sprinkles. The atmosphere felt like a party was being thrown in honor of the season. It was awesome!

5. Mulled Cider
I love walking the mall in the Fall, approaching Williams-Sonoma, and popping in for a sample of their mulled cider. Mulling spices are one of my favorite things so I buy a tin each year, bring it home and fill the air with the spicy aroma while my cider simmers.

6. I Can Turn the AC Off
My utility bill looks like a gift during the Fall. The temperature is comfortable enough that we don’t have to use AC or Heat. It is truly an economically special time of the year.

7. Warmer Clothes
The mornings and evenings are much cooler now so we’re gradually pulling out light sweaters and jackets. I’m looking forward to a warmer wardrobe, which includes my favorite ensemble…a sweater, jeans and pair of boots.

8. Fall TV Line Up
During the Fall television show premieres I’m “all in” for checking out some of the new shows. After a couple episodes I can choose the ones I’ll follow during the season. What you might be surprised to learn about me is that I’m a Law and Order fan so the addition of the Los Angeles series is exciting.

9. Taste of Atlanta
I started looking forward to this year’s event as soon as I left it last year. It’s an outdoor festival showcasing food and wine from Atlanta area restaurants. I tried some amazing dishes last year and can hardly wait to see what’s in store in 2010. Taste of Atlanta takes place on October 23 & 24 at Tech Square in Midtown.

10. It’s the Prelude to the Holiday Season
Autumn plays host to one of my favorite holidays….Thanksgiving! I’m not just talking turkey day… it’s the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade we watch during breakfast, football games for Steeler Fan, board games, family and more memory making for Miss A and Mr. B, and the Thursday sales paper with all the Black Friday deals for me. You just can’t beat that!
